Medical Medium Blog

Welcome

Hello and welcome to the Medical Medium Blog. I'm so happy to have you here. Visit this blog anytime for inspiration and valuable insights on fruits, vegetables, herbs, spices, recipes, and practices that will help you to heal and feel your best. Happy reading!

Whether you’re looking to prevent catching a cold or flu or to speed up your recovery when you’ve caught one, these nine herbs and supplements will be important tools in your healing toolbox.

You can use them year-round to help strengthen and support your immune system against colds and flus, or use them (or more of them) when you know you might have increased exposure to bugs, and/or when you feel the symptoms of a cold or flu developing.

These herbs and supplements are powerful healers for all kinds of chronic illnesses and symptoms too, not just for colds and flus. You may wish to include them if you have any symptom or condition at all. You can read more about the healing properties of each of these herbs and supplements on my blog.

Zinc, as liquid zinc sulfate, is an essential mineral for everyone to supplement for fighting colds and flus, for chronic illness, and also for health maintenance and future illness prevention. Zinc is a virus and bug killer. The onslaught of viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens we are faced with today in particular drains our zinc reserves. Almost everyone is deficient in zinc. If someone is so zinc-deficient that even the liver’s zinc reserves have dropped to a dangerous level, that person can develop a host of viral-related autoimmune diseases and illnesses, which you can read about throughout the Medical Medium book series. Zinc helps the liver’s immune system fend off every unfriendly microorganism that enters the liver, including cold and flu bugs. Try Medical Medium Zinc Shock Therapy at the first sign of a cold or flu.

Cat’s Claw destroys cold and flu bugs and other viruses, bacteria, and other unfriendly microorganisms. It strengthens the immune system to battle against colds and flus and brings stability to the body. Cat’s claw can aid in alleviating almost any symptom, from neurological to digestive. While cat’s claw has gotten some attention for its healing properties, it is as yet unknown to science that the herb contains bioactive pharma-compounds that supersede synthetic pharmaceuticals. All too often, antibiotics are employed against certain illnesses such as Lyme disease. The world would be a different place if cat’s claw took the place of antibiotics; the rate of illness would reduce, and recovery would quicken, regardless of the diagnosis for a given illness. Of course, pharmaceutical antibiotics have their place and purpose. Cat’s claw is unique, though, in that pathogens such as bacteria cannot become resistant to it, as they sometimes can to antibiotics. For more than three decades, I’ve espoused the miraculous healing benefits of cat’s claw because it is such an essential support for so many conditions and symptoms. Read more about cat’s claw.

Rose Hips Tea. Rose hips contain a bioavailable vitamin C that helps the body fight off viruses and bacteria. Sipping rose hip tea on the days when you take a vitamin C supplement is helpful because the the rose hip’s vitamin C will activate the supplemental form of it, making it stronger. The Ester-C I recommend already contains rose hip, which is one reason why it’s my preferred vitamin C.

Vitamin C, as Ester-C, not only helps fight off cold and flu bugs, but also strengthens the entire immune system, especially the killer cells that go after viruses, bacteria, yeast, mold and other unwanted fungus, all of which can weaken the immune system year-round. The strength of your immune system is directly related to how often you catch colds and flus and how severe they are. Vitamin C speeds up white blood cell recuperation and recovery time from colds and flus. Try Medical Medium Vitamin C Shock Therapy at the first sign of a cold or flu developing.

Lemon Balm is an incredible antiviral and antibacterial. It also helps with nausea, loss of appetite, and soothing and calming the nervous system, which is greatly needed when you have a cold or flu. This soothing ability means your nerves will be more relaxed and thus sleep will come more easily when you’re sick. Lemon balm is a fantastic herb to include year-round both for cold and flu assistance and chronic illnesses and symptoms. Read more about lemon balm in Life-Changing Foods.

Elderberry Syrup is one of the most effective remedies for viral and bacterial infections such as colds and flus and can substantially shorten the duration of time you are sick. Elderberries are also known to have the ability to significantly enhance immune function by boosting the production of cytokines in the body. In addition, they are very beneficial for bronchial and respiratory problems and can help loosen and expel congestion in the lungs. Get the recipe for homemade elderberry syrup on my blog.

B12 with Adenosylcobalamin and Methylcobalamin is the best form of B-12 for both chronic illnesses and symptoms and also for colds and flus. This form of B12 helps protect the nervous system and adrenals, which are weakened by fevers, flu bugs and any other pathogens. Plus, nearly everyone is deficient in vitamin B12 today. Even if you get a blood test that shows your vitamin B12 levels are normal, that doesn’t mean it’s usable B12 that’s absorbing where it needs to in your body. Your central nervous system, liver, or other organs may still be severely deficient, and a deficiency of the right kind of B12 sets the stage for all kinds of symptoms and conditions to develop or worsen. Lack of B12 is a very real deficiency with very real health consequences. The body relies on B12 for tens of thousands of daily functions.

Peppermint Tea is a gentle and soothing anti-spasmodic that calms intestinal nerves and spasms that can happen with a flu bug. It also helps relieve headaches and congestion and is an immune system booster. You can use fresh mint or dried peppermint tea.

Curcumin is a component of turmeric that reduces inflammation from an invader such as a flu bug or another pathogen. It also relieves pain and is fantastic for colds and flus, congestion, coughs, sore throat, and/or sinus problems. Curcumin is also a blood purifier and is an incredible support to the liver.

It’s common knowledge that vitamin C can help people prevent and recover from a cold or flu. But while any amount of vitamin C helps, most people don’t take enough of it to effectively combat a cold or flu, and many people don’t know which type of Vitamin C is the most helpful.

Ester-C soothes and bolsters the adrenal glands and supports the central nervous system, which is important because both your adrenals and nervous system take a big hit when you have the flu. This form of vitamin C also helps protect and stabilize neurotransmitters and blood vessels in the brain, which is important when you’re having fevers, and cleanses the bug from the body.

Ester-C is my favorite form of vitamin C for Vitamin C Shock Therapy because it’s gentle on the digestive system and gentle enough for very sensitive people. This makes it ideal for when you are in a weakened state and may have digestive symptoms from a cold or flu.

How To Do Medical Medium Vitamin C Shock Therapy

At the first signs of a cold or flu, start Vitamin C Shock Therapy:

Ingredients:
2 capsules Ester-C
1 cup water, preferably warm
2 teaspoons raw honey*
Juice of 1 orange, freshly squeezed**

Substitutions:
*100% pure maple syrup (not maple-flavored syrup) can be substituted for raw honey if desired
**The juice of 1 lemon can be used instead of orange

Directions:
Open the Ester-C capsules and pour the powder into warm water. Stir until dissolved. Add the raw honey and orange juice and stir well. Drink every two hours.

You can increase your dosage of Ester-C if your body can handle more.

For further support against colds and flus, try Zinc Shock Therapy alongside Vitamin C Shock Therapy.

This decadent recipe is sure to satisfy! Made without dairy, gluten and refined sugar or fats, they’re a fun way to enjoy a classic without the drawbacks. These Baked Ice Cream Sandwiches can be made in advance and stored in the freezer for a treat after school or work, for dessert, or to serve to family and friends.

Bananas are a powerful antiviral food—so powerful that they have the capacity to repel growth of the retrovirus HIV. High in tryptophan, bananas can help soothe sleep disorders, create calm, reduce anxiety, and alleviate depression. And those who worry about Candida have no need to fear bananas. They are the ultimate fungus destroyers, removing unproductive bacteria while feeding beneficial microorganisms in the intestinal tract. This also makes them B12-enhancing, because microbes in the gut can interrupt the ileum’s rightful process of producing vitamin B12.

Ice Cream Cookie Sandwiches

Ingredients:
1 1/3 cup gluten-free rolled oats
1 cup gluten-free oat flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp sea salt (optional)
1/4 cup melted coconut oil
2 tbsp coconut sugar
1/3 cup maple syrup
1 tsp vanilla powder or alcohol-free vanilla extract

Ice cream:
3 frozen bananas
2-3 tbsp water or almond milk
1 tsp vanilla powder or extract

Directions:
Make the ice cream by roughly chopping the frozen bananas and placing them in a food processor or high-speed blender. Process the bananas until you have a smooth, soft-serve consistency, adding warm water or almond milk by the tablespoon as needed to prevent sticking. Place in an airtight container in the freezer to set for 3 to 5 hours.

To make the cookies, preheat oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the gluten-free oats, gluten-free oat flour, baking powder, baking soda and sea salt (if using).

In another bowl, whisk together the coconut oil, coconut sugar, maple syrup and vanilla until you get a uniform mixture.

Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and stir until combined. The mixture will be very sticky.

Using an ice-cream scoop or medium cookie scoop, scoop the dough onto the lined baking sheet. Using a fork or the bottom of a glass, flatten cookies into round discs.

Bake for 8-12 minutes, depending on the thickness of the cookies. Transfer to a cooling rack and cool completely.

Using an ice-cream scoop, place a heaping scoop of ice cream onto a cookie. Press another cookie down onto the ice cream layer to cream a sandwich.

Place ice-cream sandwiches in the freezer to further solidify or serve immediately.

Serves 4-6

There’s nothing quite like a piping hot bowl of vegetable broth or soup served with garlic bread. In this recipe, the traditional wheat flour bread is swapped with golden brown potato slices that are topped with fresh minced garlic. You don’t need to worry about eating too much of this Garlic Potato bread or worsening chronic illness symptoms. With no wheat, dairy or processed ingredients, you can enjoy to your heart’s and body’s content!

Potatoes are a nutritious, healthy food that are rich in vitamins A, C, & B-complex and minerals such as manganese, iron, magnesium, and potassium. Potatoes contain an antioxidant called quercetin, which has anti-cancer and cardio-protective properties as well as a storage protein called patatin which has been shown to exhibit activity against disease causing free radicals. Potatoes are an excellent source of B6, a vitamin which is essential for the formation of almost every new cell in the body. Vitamin B6 also is a vital component for the neurological system and for the creation of amines which are neurotransmitters that send messages from one nerve to the next.

Garlic Potato Bread

Ingredients:
4 russet potatoes, cut into 1/2 inch rounds
4 garlic cloves, crushed or finely minced
1 tsp dried thyme
1/2 tsp sea salt, more to taste
1/2 tsp black pepper

Directions:
Preheat oven to 425F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.

Place the potato rounds in a large bowl and add the garlic, thyme, salt and pepper. Mix until evenly coated.

Arrange the potato rounds on the baking sheet 1/2 inch apart. Bake in the oven for 30-45 minutes, until cooked through and browned on the outside. Serve with Medical Medium Healing Broth or a soup of your choice.

Serves: 4-6

When it comes to chronic illness—whether it’s chronic acne, eczema, migraines, sleep issues, thyroid problems, mystery weight gain, tingles and numbness, ringing in the ears, dizziness, vision and eye problems, reproductive issues, cancer, diabetes, memory loss, fatigue, or any other chronic symptom or condition—the sad truth is that medical research and science don’t have the real answers for you. They don’t know the true causes of chronic illnesses and symptoms. And they don’t know the way to heal.

I love science and research. In other fields, such as medical technology that is instrumental for performing difficult, life-saving operations and computer technology, it is invaluable. But it falls short in chronic illness and even leads billions of people away from the truth. Science and research protects itself; it doesn’t protect you.

In truth, medical research and science often teaches medical communities that many chronic illnesses can’t be healed. Or they teach medical communities their theories on the causes of chronic illnesses, which are actually incorrect and have never been proven. For example, blaming chronic illness and conditions on your genes or on your body attacking itself (which are called autoimmune conditions). These are not the real causes of chronic illnesses and symptoms and even to this day they still haven't been proven to be the cause of chronic mystery illness (which is any symptom or condition with the cause unknown). The gene theory and autoimmune theory are scapegoats; a way to put the blame back on you and your body so medical research and science doesn’t have to take the blame.

Telling women that their own immune systems are destroying their glands and organs, or saying that they have faulty genes that are the reason for their struggles and suffering, is a new level of body shaming and women's disempowerment. Women's genes and bodies have not suddenly fallen apart in the last 25 to 30 years creating the epidemic of symptoms and conditions that we are facing today. We've never seen an epidemic of illness in history like we are seeing right now. Why would women's bodies suddenly start attacking themselves or why would their genes suddenly become faulty after thousands of years? There are real reasons why women and men are sick today.

Perhaps you've even heard your symptoms and conditions are because of your emotions; or that you created your illness with your negative thoughts, fears and emotional struggles; or that your symptoms are all in your head. If so, it’s essential you know this also isn’t true. There’s nothing wrong with your body. Your body loves you unconditionally and works harder than you can imagine to keep you alive and as healthy as possible.

There are very real physical reasons for your symptoms and your suffering that medical research and science are unaware of, and that’s what I share with you in all the Medical Medium books and information. It's critical that you know you can heal. You just need to know what's really behind your health struggles and the steps to take to heal the real cause. You can read about the causes of chronic illnesses and symptoms and how to heal in the Medical Medium book series. There are two main causes of chronic illness that are resulting in the worst epidemic of health symptoms and conditions this planet has ever seen. Why is it important for you to know what the causes of chronic illness are? Because everyone is either dealing with a symptom or condition themselves or know someone who is.

In America alone, more than 250 million people are sick or dealing with mystery symptoms. These are people leading diminished lives with no explanation—or explanations that don’t sit right or that make them feel even worse. You may be one of them. If so, you can attest that medical science is still puzzling through what’s behind the epidemic of mystery symptoms and suffering.

If research and science already had all the answers for chronic illness, people wouldn't still be sick, living with a symptom, or having to live their lives not really knowing what's wrong with them. How many times have you heard, “There is no known cure for [fill-in-the-blank disease]”? Or how many times have you heard that a symptom or condition is because of your genes or your body attacking itself (the autoimmune theory). Neither of these are right. They are misguided theories that were never proven. Your genes don't create chronic illness and your body never attacks itself; it loves you unconditionally. Surprised

What this translates to is: science doesn’t have every answer yet. We’ve already waited 100-plus years for real insights from medical communities into chronic illness—and they haven’t come. You shouldn’t have to wait another 10, 20, 30, or more years for scientific research to find the real answers. If you’re stuck in bed, dragging through your days, experiencing pain and discomfort, or feeling lost about your health, you shouldn’t have to go through one more day of it, let alone another decade. You shouldn’t have to watch your children go through it, either—and yet millions do. With symptoms and conditions developing and worsening at such an alarming rate across the globe, it's absolutely vital that you empower and arm yourself with the truth about what's really behind countless chronic health symptoms and conditions. You can read about the causes of chronic illnesses and symptoms and how to heal in the Medical Medium book series. A great book for anyone to start with is Medical Medium Liver Rescue: Answers to Eczema, Psoriasis, Diabetes, Strep, Acne, Gout, Bloating, Gallstones, Adrenal Stress, Fatigue, Fatty Liver, Weight Issues, SIBO & Autoimmune Disease.

Watch Brittany share how Medical Medium information helped her heal. Diagnosed with Hashimoto's, her conditions and symptoms included chronic fatigue, brain fog, hair loss, anxiety, panic attacks, postpartum depression, tingling and numbness, neurological issues, and more. Thank you for inspiring so many with your healing story Brittany!

The same virus—Epstein-Barr virus— that causes Hashimoto's and other thyroid conditions can cause fatigue. This symptom can occur at different stages of EBV. Early on, during the mono phase, fatigue can result as your immune system puts its energy into fighting your first active, present, and ready-to-go-into-action viral blood infection. Once EBV is in the organs, a second type of fatigue—neurological fatigue—can occur from the virus releasing its neurotoxins. Neurological fatigue is frequently mistaken for adrenal fatigue, though they are truly distinct. Neurological fatigue and adrenal fatigue can occur either separately or at the same time, because one has to do with the nervous system and the other with the endocrine system.

Adrenal fatigue is a real and legitimate condition—there's a reason that I devoted a chapter to it in Medical Medium. Still, we must be careful not to identify every case of fatigue as adrenal fatigue—which is what's happening in many medical communities today. Adrenal fatigue as the across-the-board answer is distracting from the truth, which is that late-stage Epstein-Barr virus is targeting the central nervous systems of countless people. Viral neurotoxins are flooding their systems, creating an undetectable viral encephalitis (brain inflammation) that creates irritated, lethargic, sensitive nerves throughout the body and can get in the way of life in devastating ways.

Since following Medical Medium information she's experienced a 90% reduction in these symptoms. Thank you Kate for sharing your incredible healing journey!

To understand the undiscovered truth about Lyme disease, read this excerpt from Medical Medium Celery Juice: The Most Powerful Medicine of Our Time Healing Millions Worldwide: "You may be interested to know that Lyme disease is a chronic viral infection. While you might have been diagnosed with a bacterial infection, the symptoms of Lyme are viral. Even if bacteria such as Borrelia are present, they're not causing what makes Lyme patients suffer. The symptoms of Lyme are neurological, and bacteria don't create neurological symptoms because they don't produce neurotoxins. Only viruses feeding on toxic heavy metals such as mercury, aluminum, and copper—as well as gluten, eggs, dairy, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides that are inside our livers and other parts of our bodies—create the neurotoxins that cause Lyme disease."

If you’ve looked into the trendy diets of today, you’ve probably come across at least one diet that focuses on getting enough protein and minimizing carbohydrates. The truth is that there are many high protein and low carbohydrate diets that have been trendy over the last few decades. Today’s ketogenic diet is just one of the latest iterations of the high protein, low carb diet trend that started in the 1970s. While some benefits can be gained from any diet that eliminates processed foods like candy, cake, cookies, and fried food, there is only so far a high protein, low carb diet can take you when it comes to healing your body. In truth, this way of eating is as misinformed—and nearly as harmful—as it was when it started decades ago. I know you might have read or heard that high protein and low carbohydrate diets are beneficial, but today I will share why they are problematic, especially for someone with a chronic health condition or symptom.

Following a keto diet is damaging for your body and brain whether you eat an animal-based keto diet or a plant-based keto diet. Some people experience temporary relief or weight loss on a keto diet, but it’s important to understand that these improvements are short-lived. Especially if you suffer from chronic illness, autoimmune disease, neurological conditions or mysterious symptoms, you’ll want to run the other way from anything close to the keto diet.

For a full understanding of what your body really needs for healing and long-term health, check out Liver Rescue: Answers to Eczema, Psoriasis, Diabetes, Strep, Acne, Gout, Bloating, Gallstones, Adrenal Stress, Fatigue, Fatty Liver, Weight Issues, SIBO & Autoimmune Disease.

Inherently Flawed

The entire premise of the keto diet is incorrect to begin with. The diet involves restricting carbohydrate intake while focusing on high protein and fat intake. The theory is that this way of eating causes your body to go into a metabolic state called ketosis, where you efficiently burn fat as an energy source for your body and brain.

The reality is, it’s not possible for your body to go into ketosis if you’re eating any amount or form of sugar whatsoever, including the natural sugars found in most foods. That means anyone eating even a tiny bit of nuts, seeds, avocado, cheese, butter, tomato, or green juices is taking in natural sugar. Unless someone is eating only bacon three times a day (in which case they’d feel terrible and cause even more damage for themselves down the road), they’re not entering ketosis.

The idea that your body can switch to burning fat as fuel is also flawed. We don’t run on fat. We run on glucose, which is sugar. If it were true that our bodies could flip from burning glucose for energy to burning fat for energy, as the keto diet suggests, then it would be impossible for someone who was overweight or obese to starve. If the ketosis theory is correct, you could take away an overweight person’s food completely and they’d continue to live for a long period of time, using their fat as energy. But that’s not how it works. Fat does not convert to usable material for our bodies.

Anyone of any weight can starve or be malnourished without the glucose and nutrition their body needs, that is, without the glucose and nutrients that are bountiful in carbohydrates such as fruits and starchy vegetables, and without the nutrients found in leafy greens and herbs. These are what I call the CCCs, which stands for Critical Clean Carbohydrates. I detail why these foods are necessary, helpful and healing in Liver Rescue and share how dozens of the foods in the CCC category bring healing to the body.

The Old Roots of High Protein, Low Carb Diets

To everyone’s detriment, the world has become anti-sugar and anti-carbohydrate. Shunning fruits and starchy vegetables is taking away people’s ability to heal. How did we get here? The answer requires a quick history lesson and an open mind. In the early 1930s, the meat packing industry and the government joined forces to promote protein. Around this time, instead of going to the farmer and the butcher shop for meat, animal products were becoming industrialized. They were made cheap and available in mass. They were promoted as critical. Monetary interests were put ahead of people’s health.

The idea that protein is more important than anything else was pushed by the partnership of industry and government. This belief was indoctrinated into the conventional medical model and taught in grammar schools. It got drilled into everyone’s thinking and consciousness (and has remained there in the decades since).

Before this colluding effort to push protein, health practitioners were not focused on protein and meat. Protein wasn’t the top choice to sustain people. Alternative practitioners and healers especially believed in fruits, leafy greens, vegetables, herbs, potatoes, nuts and seeds. And although they weren’t focused on protein, the reality is there’s some protein in everything you eat. It’s in spinach, it’s in berries, it’s in bananas. It’s everywhere. Nonetheless, the baseless but calculated decisions to promote heavy protein intake continue to influence and confuse our thinking today. For more on this topic and how we have been misled, check out my podcast and article on The Truth About Protein.

Taking Aim at Fats...and Missing

People who are in the health industry have always been in search of the best diet. In the 1970s, doctors were seeing the rise of heart disease, high blood pressure, liver disease, cholesterol and diabetes. People were cutting out fast food, processed food and greasy foods, yet they still were experiencing all kinds of symptoms and conditions. In the 70s, doctors and the medical system had correctly recognized that too much fat, too many animal products and too much red meat was contributing to disease.

All that fat intake leads to higher fat content in the blood, which leads to a lack of oxygen in the blood. Over time, diminished oxygen levels getting to the heart and brain contributes to problems like strokes and heart attacks. Too much fat in the bloodstream also triggers the adrenal glands to shoot off adrenaline as it tries to clean up your blood to protect you.

Unfortunately, the realization that fat was harmful to our health didn’t translate into an effective response. Instead, grocery shelves filled up with low-fat and fat-free products (which often contained unhealthy, processed ingredients or trans fats). People began eliminating fats that actually had healthy properties, such as coconut oil, avocado, nuts, seeds and olives. And on top of that, people continued to eat lots of animal protein. People didn’t realize that animal protein translates into animal fat, which means they were still eating high fat diets even if they thought they had a “lean cut.” They were still consuming way too much fat—and often even worse types of fat than before—on their low fat diets.

With this flawed approach, any progress that could have been made fell apart. Health professionals realized the low fat diet trend wasn’t working. Eventually, the only thing left to do (because protein remained untouchable due to the agenda and money behind it) was to go after carbohydrates. That was the birth of the keto diet.

Since then, it’s been one version after another of a trendy low carb, high protein diet. The same concept has been repackaged into different names over the decades with just a slight twist to market it as its own unique diet program. One thing that has altered slightly is today’s high protein diets have a little more carbohydrates. Modern versions allow in some leafy greens, a bit of avocado, or a few berries and nuts. That’s because the older versions that allowed none of these healing foods destroyed people’s health. Our bodies and brains need the nutrients, antioxidants, phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals that are packed into leafy greens, fruits, berries, vegetables, coconut water and raw honey. Sprinkling these healing foods into today’s high protein, low carb trends makes these diets a little less harmful.

Why Keto Can (Sort of) Work (Temporarily, Sometimes)

When people commit to almost any diet, including a high protein, low carb diet like keto, they get off all the worst of the worst foods. They eliminate fast food, greasy food, processed foods and refined sugar. They clean some things up and eliminate some toxins, which offers their bodies a bit of reprieve.

The true cause of most chronic health conditions and symptoms, including weight gain, are what I call troublemakers. In Liver Rescue I explain more about these troublemakers: viruses, bacteria, toxic heavy metals and man-made chemicals. All of these have been prolific since the Industrial Revolution, and they’re making people sicker than ever at younger and younger ages. Your liver works incredibly hard to capture and filter out troublemakers, but it’s got a big job to do.

Diets that are high in fat and protein are a huge burden to a liver that’s already working overtime to deal with toxins. And think about how fat and sugar usually go together: doughnuts, cakes and cookies; pasta with butter; Asian food with sesame oil or peanut oil; fatty ribs with BBQ sauce; even peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. People don’t consume a lot of sugar alone. Nobody’s on an all-candy diet. Yet sugar has become the scapegoat for health problems in recent years while the fat that goes hand in hand with it is overlooked.

Instead of just removing the unhealthy, refined sugars, the fear went too far and people became afraid of the healthy natural sugars in fruits and starchy vegetables. Now people are taking all sugars out and keeping fats and protein high. Certainly people see some relief upon taking out refined sugar because that’s one troublemaker to the body. For instance, when people remove sugars they’ll see A1C levels might drop or diabetes and prediabetes improve. But it doesn’t fix the problem altogether.

Too much fat in the blood is a big problem. When there’s too much fat in the blood, the body tries to get rid of the sugar. It tries to move sugar into the cells because your cells need sugar to survive. But it can’t accomplish this well because the fat blocks the sugar from entering the cells. So then your body produces more insulin and you end up with insulin resistance. The sugar gets trapped in the bloodstream, insulin resistance begins, A1C levels go up and the liver becomes more sluggish.

So that improvement seen when someone removes sugar is a smoke screen to the real problem. The minute they bring any sugar back, their problems return. That’s because sugar was never the problem in the first place. The real issue for chronic illness, diabetes, blood sugar issues and weight gain is a sluggish, fatty, tired liver that’s overloaded with pathogens and toxins. I explain exactly how diabetes, blood sugar issues, weight gain, and many more symptoms and conditions develop and how these troublemakers are at the root of chronic illness and autoimmune disease in Liver Rescue, along with guidance on how to heal.

Another Keto Downfall: Intermittent Fasting

People tend to do intermittent fasting when they’re on a keto diet. This is because they feel better. They feel better because eating fat and protein all day eventually makes you feel terrible, like you’re falling apart. With all that fat clogging the bloodstream and reducing the blood’s oxygen levels, your organs and cells can’t get the oxygen they need. Fasting offers a reprieve compared to the alternative of eating more fat and protein. So people often fast, filling their depleted energy levels with caffeine and coffee and chocolate to get through the day.

Of course, this is harmful too. Dumping caffeine into the body floods your system with adrenaline. Adrenaline is corrosive, and it’s another thing your liver has to sop up and try to filter out. Down the road, people who are eating lots of fat, and caffeine in the meantime, will sadly find themselves getting sicker and sicker.

If someone does temporarily feel better eating an animal-based keto diet with multiple meals a day, then aside from the removal of the processed foods they may have been eating, it will be because of the adrenaline naturally found in the animal foods they are eating which can make someone temporarily feel better. But this isn’t a true healing that’s happening, but a mask to how they’d really feel without that adrenaline. Eventually, the person will start to feel worse and worse.

Sustained Healing That Works

Now that you know the truth about the keto diet and high protein, low carb diets in general, it’s important to educate yourself on what your body really needs to heal and thrive. That’s what I cover in detail in all of the Medical Medium book series. In Liver Rescue I lay out exactly how you can heal and move forward. You may not think you have any issues with your liver, but the truth is that nine out of ten people right now have an overburdened liver to some degree and if you have any symptom or condition, such as acne, eczema, migraines, cold sores, fatigue, vision problems, digestive issues, or any other, it means your liver needs your help. Dig in to Liver Rescue: Answers to Eczema, Psoriasis, Diabetes, Strep, Acne, Gout, Bloating, Gallstones, Adrenal Stress, Fatigue, Fatty Liver, Weight Issues, SIBO & Autoimmune Disease and Medical Medium Celery Juice: The Most Powerful Medicine of Our Time Healing Millions Worldwide to properly understand how you can support your body to heal.
